Mission

What We Believe

The Moral Compass is a student-led publication that explores ethical questions without a single clear answer. Our mission is to guide deep thinking and intellectual curiosity. We hope to foster a generation that is better prepared to navigate complexity with reason, empathy, and a positive moral ethos.

The Moral Compass was founded by Harvard-Westlake students to create an open platform where complex questions are taken seriously.

Each issue centers around a single theme that is examined from multiple angles and competing frameworks that ultimately pushes everyone forward.

Issue One

Artificial Intelligence & Technology

Our first issue focuses on being ethical and moral in a world increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence and technology.

Our Framework

The Moral Compass was founded and is edited by Jack Lee and Dylan Williams. Every essay is written by a high-school student based on that writer's own views.

We strive for the highest standard in our thoughts and writing, and we edit for clarity and rigor.

Propose a Question

The best ethical questions often come from readers. Have one you'd like us to take on in a future issue? Send it our way — we read every submission.

A Note from the Co-Founders

Every generation inherits a set of questions it did not ask for. Today, the world is going through an unprecedented transformation with artificial intelligence. Revolutionary technology is shaping how we form opinions, understand our environments, and how we learn.

Issue One brings together student writers from Harvard-Westlake to confront the ethics of AI and technology while offering a holistic set of topics.

We hope you read thoughtfully and carefully.

The Moral Compass respects your privacy. This page explains, in plain terms, what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. We collect as little as possible.

What we collect

The only personal information we collect is what you choose to give us through our subscribe form: your name and email address. We do not require an account, and we do not collect anything else about you.

How we use it

We use your name and email for a single purpose: to notify you when a new issue of The Moral Compass is published. We will not send you anything else, and we will never sell or share your information with third parties for their own use.

How it's processed

Subscription details are delivered to the editors through Formspree, a form-handling service that passes the message along to us. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policy.

Cookies & tracking

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site stores one small setting in your browser — your light/dark theme preference — so it can remember it on your next visit. That information never leaves your device. We do not currently run analytics; if we add a privacy-friendly, anonymous analytics tool in the future, we will update this page.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information at any time — just email an editor and we'll remove you promptly. We keep your details only for as long as you wish to receive notifications.
